Daviess County CEO Cohort Welcomes Chance Berry for Bankers Day Insights
On March 13th, the Daviess County CEO Cohort had the privilege of welcoming Chance Berry from First Savings Bank of Washington. Chance shared valuable insights on navigating Bankers Day, emphasizing the importance of preparation, professionalism, and adaptability.
One of the key takeaways from Chance’s discussion was the reminder that even the best-laid plans can change. To make a strong impression, he encouraged students to approach Bankers Day as if it were a job interview. His advice included:
* First Impressions Matter – Treat every interaction professionally.
* Elevator Pitch – Have a clear and concise introduction ready.
* Be Ready to Ask Questions – Show engagement and curiosity.
* Use Notecards – They can be a helpful tool for staying organized.
* Bring Samples – A tangible representation of your idea can make an impact.
*Understand the Financials – Know what you’re asking for and communicate it clearly.
* Keep It Simple – Avoid unnecessary complications.
* Be Concise – Value the time of those you’re speaking with.
* Recognize That Everyone’s Time is Different – Be mindful of schedules and pacing.
Beyond the practical aspects of Bankers Day, Chance also shared broader business wisdom. He encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones, be open to new experiences, and embrace learning opportunities. He reminded them that they won’t always have all the answers—and that’s okay. Rather than pretending to know everything, honesty and authenticity go a long way.
“Fake it till you make it doesn’t always work,” he advised. Instead, he stressed the importance of being yourself, staying positive, and confidently selling your ideas.
A big thank you to Chance Berry for taking the time to share his knowledge and support our program!
