On Tuesday, February 11th, the Daviess County CEO Cohort had the privilege of hosting Jared Miller, founder of Selling Table. Jared shared his inspiring and unconventional journey from high school to entrepreneurship, offering invaluable lessons to aspiring business owners.
Jared’s path to success has been anything but straight. From his early days as a high school athlete to a brief college experience and time in Christian ministry, he eventually found his way to Daviess County. His career took many turns, including roles in automotive repair, investments, real estate, and mortgage lending. He later transitioned into a regional banking position before his entrepreneurial spirit led him to launch Selling Table in January 2022.
Selling Table was born from Jared’s initiative to assist For Sale By Owner clients, highlighting the importance of adaptability and seizing opportunities. His journey serves as a testament to the unpredictable yet rewarding nature of entrepreneurship.
During his discussion, Jared explained key aspects of the transaction process, including appraisals, inspections, purchase agreements, recording deeds, and facilitating buyer-seller connections. He also shared insights on marketing, emphasizing that while he initially invested in various platforms like Google Ads, Facebook Ads, radio, and LinkedIn, he found that the most powerful tool was word-of-mouth referrals.
Jared offered practical business advice, stressing the importance of flexibility, conservative planning, and sufficient startup capital. He encouraged students to reflect on their purpose, asking, “What am I built for and made for?” Above all, he urged them to always do the right thing.
A huge thank you to Jared Miller for visiting and leaving a lasting impact. His story and wisdom provided the cohort with a real-world perspective on entrepreneurship, reminding them that success is not always a straight path—but with resilience and integrity, anything is possible.
