On February 5th, the Daviess County CEO Cohort embarked on an insightful journey to Indiana Safety & Supply, a family-owned industrial safety distributor headquartered in Washington, IN. Since its founding in 1992, the company has been a steadfast guardian of workplace safety, expanding its reach across all 50 states with additional branches in Pueblo, CO, and two locations in Kokomo, IN.
Guided by Austin Bush, Vice President and Director of Sales, the cohort delved into the complexities of industrial safety solutions. Austin’s career path serves as an inspiring example of stepping beyond one’s comfort zone. His experience in high school DECA played a crucial role in shaping his professional journey, and his finance degree has equipped him to navigate the competitive sales industry. He emphasized the importance of selling solutions rather than just products, highlighting the value of strategic problem-solving in business.
Branding stands as a cornerstone of Indiana Safety & Supply’s success. Every product, from safety eyewear to molded earplugs, is designed to reflect the company’s commitment to quality and care. Their distinctive branding sets them apart from competitors, and their dedication to innovation is evident in the multiple patents they hold on their product designs.
During the visit, Austin shared key insights with the cohort, reinforcing essential principles for business and personal growth:
****Growing pains are positive but come with challenges.
****Vending machines in factories create customer stickiness.
****Always know your WHY.
****Have value, be unique.
****Work hard, do the right thing, and success will follow.
****Be willing to pivot, learn, and continually improve yourself.
The Daviess County CEO Cohort extends its gratitude to Austin Bush for his time and invaluable insights, leaving the students inspired and equipped with real-world business wisdom.
