On December 17th, just before parting ways for the holiday season, the Daviess County CEO Cohort had the privilege of welcoming Rob Dyer, Home Depot's Asset Protection Manager, for another engaging session. This visit marked a deeper dive into the world of retail investigation, inventory management, and the critical issue of shrinkage.
Rob shared valuable insights into the complexities of retail operations, emphasizing key topics such as Organized Retail Crime (ORC), shrinkage, and the causes behind it. Notably, he broke down shrinkage into two main categories: theft, accounting for 68%, and operational errors, which make up the remaining 32%. He also shared an eye-opening statistic: one in 11 people has shoplifted at some point, underscoring the importance of building strong relationships and fostering a culture of integrity.
Speaking of integrity, he offered a powerful reminder to the students: “Integrity means doing the right thing when no one is looking.” He noted that integrity is one of the few things in life that can only be given away, urging students to safeguard it at all costs.
To inspire entrepreneurial thinking, Rob encouraged the cohort to approach business ideas with creativity, suggesting that a simple twist on an existing idea could spark innovation. His advice resonated deeply with the students, offering a practical and empowering perspective for their journeys.
The Daviess County CEO Cohort extends a heartfelt thank you to Rob for his time, wisdom, and continued support. His guidance is invaluable in shaping the next generation of business leaders.
