On January 29th, following the success of our banquet, An Evening With Young Entrepreneurs, the Daviess County CEO had the privilege of welcoming Tracy “TC” Cook—Executive Director of The Powerhouse and newly elected Daviess County Commissioner. In addition to his leadership roles, TC also serves as a dedicated mentor for the CEO program.
During his visit, TC shared his inspiring life journey, highlighting the challenges and pivotal moments that shaped him into the leader he is today. He encouraged the cohort to embrace risks early, prioritize communication, and understand the lasting impact of first impressions.
Key Takeaways from TC’s Talk:
1. Take Risks Early – Growth comes from stepping outside your comfort zone.
2. Communicate Always – Clear and consistent communication fosters success.
3. First Impressions Matter – How you present yourself can open or close doors.
4. Mistakes Shape Us – While nobody likes making mistakes, they are essential for learning and growth.
5. Dream Big & Stay Focused – “If your vision does not scare you a little, you’re thinking too small.”
6. What You Focus on Grows – Energy and effort determine success.
TC also emphasized the importance of follow-ups, continuous learning through trial and error, and the power of curiosity in asking the right questions. He reminded the cohort that life is a marathon, not a sprint, and that building a strong reputation early on is crucial. He acknowledged that while mistakes are inevitable, what truly matters is how one responds to and learns from them.
Insights on Non-Profits
Diving into his expertise in the world of non-profits, TC provided an in-depth look at key aspects of running a successful organization. He explained:
***The importance of IRS designations and legal structures.
***Why selling only to like minds strengthens a nonprofit’s mission.
***The critical role of a board of directors in governance and strategy.
***How nonprofits effectively sell their cause to attract support and funding.
His insights offered valuable lessons for those aspiring to make a positive impact through nonprofit work.
Powerhouse Growth & Community Impact
TC also shared exciting updates about The Powerhouse’s new building, expressing confidence in expanding their mission. Last year alone, the organization served over 9,000 meals, showcasing their ongoing commitment to supporting the community.
A sincere thank you to TC for taking the time to inspire and educate our cohort with his wisdom and experiences!
