On August 29th, the Daviess County CEO Cohort visited Big Al's Place, located on 4 E National Hwy in Washington, for an insightful tour and discussion. Allen and his wife, Andrea, are in their eighth season running a successful food truck business, a venture inspired by Allen’s upbringing in the food industry—his mother was in catering for 30 years. Allen, an entrepreneur and handyman who builds his own trailers, shared valuable advice with the Cohort.
He emphasized the importance of understanding regulations, building relationships with local health inspectors, and adapting to new ideas. Allen encouraged the group to embrace rebranding, build strong connections, and not be afraid to pivot when necessary. He stressed the need for a thorough business plan, something the Cohort is preparing to work on themselves, and highlighted how competition can foster growth.
Allen also praised his 15 part-time employees and revealed that a new trailer (we had the privilege to view the almost finished product) would debut at a wedding reception on September 7th. The visit concluded with a tour of Big Al's kitchen, complete with a fire pizza oven, and a fun moment when the group squeezed into the food truck.
A big thank you to Allen for generously sharing his time, expertise, and entrepreneurial wisdom with the Daviess County CEO Cohort. Your insights were invaluable, and the tour was both informative and inspiring. We appreciate the opportunity to learn from your experiences and are grateful for the warm hospitality. Thank you, Big Al!!
